Jonn investigated a rattle coming from the offside rear of our 2007 Porsche 911 and identified the backplate as the source. He removed the wheel and calliper, then de-adjusted the handbrake shoes to allow for the removal of the disc. With the disc off, he cleaned the handbrake shoes and inspected the dust shield, which was found to be corroded around the bolt holes.

To address this, the bolts securing the shield were heated for removal. One bolt snapped during this process, but it did not affect the outcome. Jonn modified the backplate as necessary, cleaned out the bolt holes, and applied lubricant to the bolts. Washers were used to secure the backplate in place. The disc was then refitted, followed by the calliper, with Loctite applied to the bolts for security. Jonn adjusted the handbrake shoes to the correct setting and refitted the wheel, tightening it to a torque of 160Nm.
