Peppa Pig’s little brother George is learning that he is moderately deaf.

He will find out in a new episode coming soon, and his whole family wants to help children everywhere understand that being different is just another way of being you.

What Does This Mean for George?

George has always been Peppa’s quiet, dinosaur-loving little brother. In the new episodes, George visits the doctor and finds out that one of his ears doesn’t hear very well.

To help him hear more sounds, George gets a hearing aid, which is a tiny device that helps make sounds louder and clearer. Soon, he starts hearing new noises like the splashing sound when he jumps in muddy puddles, the ice cream van playing its tune, and he even says “Peppa” for the very first time!

Peppa Pig Teaching About Real Life

Peppa Pig has always tried to show the world as it really is. For example, Mandy Mouse uses a wheelchair, and Penny Polar Bear has two mums.

Now, George’s story helps deaf children see themselves on screen, and helps hearing children learn to understand their friends better, too.

Help From A Rugby Playing Gladiator

To make sure George’s story felt real and kind, the Peppa Pig team worked with experts who support deaf children, deaf adults who helped shape the story, and families who know what living with hearing loss is like.

The audiologist (hearing doctor) who helps George find out he is moderately deaf is voiced by Jodie Ounsley, a real-life Gladiator known as Fury. She is also an author and the first deaf female rugby player to represent England.
