Jon completed the pre-delivery inspection on our 1958 Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite and resolved an issue with the wipers not functioning. During the investigation, he discovered a melted wire near the fuse box. After disconnecting and checking continuity to the fan, he confirmed the circuit was intact and not shorted to earth. The wire was reconnected at both ends. There was no power reaching the wiper motor, but when tested using a power probe, the motor operated correctly, confirming it was functional.
To restore proper operation, Jon ran a new wire from the fan feed under the dash to the wiper motor and tested it successfully. He then made this wiring permanent by soldering the ends and applying shrink wrap. The new wire was connected, taped into the existing loom, and the old wiper feed was disconnected and insulated.
He also secured the indicator switch in the dash and tidied the associated wiring beneath. The tyres were inflated before the car was taken outside, filled with P1 fuel, and road tested. During the drive, Jon noted the mixture required richening and the nearside front brake was binding slightly. He stripped the brake assembly, removed the drum, cleaned it out, and sanded down high spots on the shoes. After securing the drum and refitting the wheel, he torqued it to specification and adjusted the offside front brake as well.
Following a second road test, the braking showed improvement but still exhibited a slight pull to the left. Jon noted that the new drum would need time to bed into the shoes, with a follow-up adjustment recommended after approximately 100 miles.
