Hey, I’m Rilee. Last month I got to go to London for a very special evening at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, just around the corner from Buckingham Palace. It was an amazing evening, full of very important people all looking very smart and dapper.
The awards happen every year and they celebrate our history and all the old cars like me that are still around today.
I was shortlisted for an award in the Innovation category and even though I didn’t win, I had a lovely time there and met some amazing people. Layla sells car parts from old cars so her team make sure cars like me can still be looked after using original parts.
We also heard from an amazing man called Sammy Miller MBE. He won the Lifetime Achievement Award and although he was not able to be in London with us for the evening we watched a great video all about his life. His journey began during the Second World War, when he was evacuated to the countryside and first learned to ride off-road, scrambling across waste ground and bomb sites and laying the foundations of the skills that would make him legendary. At 17 he built his first motorcycle around a Villiers engine, and almost immediately began winning trials across the Belfast area. He has lived an incredible life and now owns a museum full of all of his bikes and trophies.
Thank you to the Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards for having me and the Bridge Classic Cars team and I hope I get to visit again soon.
What is the Royal Automobile Historic Awards is the annual awards that recognise the amazing people and what they do to the United Kingdom’s historic motoring and motorsport.
