I ventured to London to perform this weekend. The Three Chordettes were invited to perform for Collectif Vintage in Spitalfields, for the world renowned vintage clothing company’s D-Day Celebration. The day started off with a delayed train, but this only brought good fortune as we were upgraded to first class.
Having had a relaxing journey feeling very posh in our first class seats we arrived in London bright eyed and bushy tailed! We were greeted at the Collectif Vintage Spitalfields Store with open arms by the fabulous staff, then the fun really began. We tried on so many vintage style outfits we lost count. It was like living in a dream. I am sure you will see some of these outfits being worn with some classic cars very soon.
The store has two floors Jam packed to the rafters with Retro styles. If you’re in London and need a vintage style outfit to go with your classic car, check it out!
Then came the performance, which was a blast. We sang outside the store, beckoning the punters in like mermaids luring sailors into the sea. We received some of the best compliments during this performance, such as:
“I didn’t know you had turned the original tracks off, and they had started singing as the sound was so brilliant”
On Saturday night, I sang with Skyliner, the mini band with the big band sound, for Hundons D-Day Celebration.
Then on Sunday, I had the absolute pleasure of performing at The SHED in the 1940s Café Nora’s tea room. They pulled out all the stops at this event; all the guests had arrived in full vintage attire, including props.
The tea room is adorned with vintage treasures from the 1940s. They served a special ration menu where all the food that was cooked was prepared using rationed ingredients (It tasted great! The ration scones were delicious).
During the event, in between my sets, they had created a bustling activity list, for example, a wartime quiz, best dressed competition, pin the cigar on Winston Churchill and many more activities. The highlight of the afternoon for me was a good old sing-along where the guests all joined me in singing some wartime classics whilst waving their Union Jack flags.
What a truly wonderful afternoon!
