Jonn carried out a quick check of fluid levels on our 1978 MG Midget ahead of a planned road test, but the vehicle failed to start. Initial checks confirmed low fuel, so 10 litres were added, though the issue persisted. The spark plugs were cleaned and re-gapped, and a spark test showed no ignition. The distributor cap was removed to inspect the rotor and cap, and spark was confirmed at the points, but still absent at the plugs. The central contact in the cap was removed and reinstalled, after which the engine started successfully.
A road test was completed, followed by an exterior appraisal. The car was then moved onto the ramp for further inspection. All levels were checked and lubrication carried out. Upon stripping the brakes, the nearside rear wheel cylinder was found to be seized, with a leaking hub seal. The offside rear brake shoes were contaminated with oil due to a similar leak. Additionally, the nearside headlight was removed after it was found to be incorrectly fitted and missing clips.
