Welcome to our Theatre in Education workshop, The Story of Rilee.

This is an interactive, immersive performance designed especially for primary schools (KS1, KS2) that helps children learn about history, sustainability, and being creative.

In our live theatre experience, pupils will meet Rilee, a classic car from 1905, who is brought back to life using his original parts and some help from modern technology.

Rilee is joined by his friends Eco and Luxy. Both are classic cars that fit perfectly into a more sustainable modern world, thanks to conversions to EV or being powered by synthetic fuel.

Rilee leads children on a journey through time, exploring how past creations can influence our present, and how today’s choices can shape a more sustainable future.

Through multi-sensory storytelling, group discussions, and hands-on activities, pupils engage with curriculum-linked themes, including:

History & engineering

Environmental awareness & sustainability

Critical thinking & taking action

Understanding legacy: how the past shapes the present

Designed for KS1 and KS2, the workshop is flexible and tailored to different age groups and learning needs.

This Mercedes-Benz 380 Cabriolet A is so rare that even though it has been locked away for more than 30 years, and doesn’t even start, someone was willing to pay over £250,000 to buy it.

To give you an idea of how rare this car actually is, only 16 of them were ever made, and only three or four are still known to exist today!

Back in 1933 and 1934, Mercedes built just 154 of these “Model W22” cars. But this version, the Cabriolet A, was extra special as it had long, sleek lines, an open-top roof, and was thought to be extremely stylish for its time.

The Red Arrows are the UK’s most famous flying machines.

These acrobatic red planes usually show up at big events and leave red, white, and blue clouds in the sky behind them.

During King Charles’s recent birthday parade in London, these amazing planes did something for the very first time, they were powered by sustainable fuel!

Usually, jet planes, like the Red Arrows, use kerosene as fuel, which isn’t great for the environment. But this time, the Red Arrows were all powered by a special kind of sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF for short. It’s made from things like old cooking oil instead of fossil fuels. That means it creates a lot less pollution.

Even the colourful clouds the planes left behind them were made in a sustainable way. They came from hydrotreated vegetable oil. That means that fossil fuels weren’t used in this part of the parade either, and much less damage was done to the Earth.

Ferrari is famous for building very cool cars that can go extremely fast. The Ferrari team are now trying something new; they have built a very special racing boat! It’s called the Ferrari Hypersail, and it’s unlike any boat you would have seen before.

It’s A Flying Boat

Well, kind of. The Hypersail is a 100-foot racing yacht that glides above the water on special wings called foils. These foils lift the boat out of the water so it can “fly” on just three points of contact. It has a clever keel (that’s the long fin on the bottom of the boat) that supports one of the foils. There are two more foils on the sides and the rudder. This setup creates a flying boat!

There is one invention that has saved more than 1 million lives, and that is the three-point seat belt, which you’ll find in almost every car you see today.

Nils Bohlin was an engineer who worked for @VolvoCars back in 1959. It was during his time there that he realised the seat belts being used in cars were not as safe as they should be.

At this point, seat belts only went across your lap, and, in a crash, they usually hurt people a lot instead of helping them.

As Nils Bohlin used to design ejector seats for jet planes, he knew a lot about safety. He thought, “What if we made a seat belt that goes across your lap and your chest?”

That way, it would spread out the force of a crash and keep people safer. He designed a belt that looked like a letter “V” as he knew this would make it strong, comfy, and easy to use.

There is an event where cars race against each other around a track with no drivers, and it’s happening this year at the @AutonomousRacingLeague (A2RL).

What Is A2RL?

A2RL is a special kind of race where futuristic cars drive themselves around the track using computer programs called algorithms. These races test how well these programs can control the cars, making quick decisions the same way a human driver would. These cars do it faster than a human can, though.

When Is The Race?

The next race is on November 15th 2025, at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. There’s a £1.7 million prize that can be won for the best car!

Teams from countries like France, Japan, the USA, Germany, China, Singapore, Italy, and the UAE will compete to see whose car can drive itself the best.

This is the story of Rilee, a very special (and very old) classic car brought back to life into a very different world from the one it remembers.

This is a heartwarming children’s story that follows the journey of a burgundy vintage car with a big story and an even bigger world to see. The story of Rilee is perfect for children as a bedtime story or as a way to introduce them to history and how important old things can be.

As Rilee meets two new friends, each one a special car in its own way, the foundations of friendship, acceptance, and kindness are demonstrated in a child-friendly way.

This is the first part of the story where the three friends meet for the very first time as we learn how they all came to be in the modern world.
