Rolls-Royce have had some help at their factory in Goodwood from Year 2 pupils from The March CE Primary School!
These children planted the very first tree on the site where Rolls-Royce is building an extension. The tree was an elderberry tree, known for its stunning flowers and tasty berries. This special planting took place beside Footpath 417, a newly upgraded footpath that now runs alongside the site.

Rolls-Royce is planning to plant thousands of trees and shrubs to make the area greener and better for wildlife. They’re working hard to make sure the new extension helps nature, not harms it. In fact, they want to make the environment even better than it was before, a goal called “biodiversity net gain.”
Along with planting the elderberry tree, the children also scattered wildflower and grass seeds. These seeds will grow into a colourful meadow that can be enjoyed by bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
To remember the day, each child received their own trowel to take home. Andrew Ball from Rolls-Royce said:
“It feels wholly appropriate that the first new tree should be planted by children from our local school. As the elderberry tree grows and flourishes, so too will they. We are proud to mark this moment with The March CE Primary School, reaffirming a valued and enduring partnership.”
Great work from Rolls-Royce and the Year 2 children from The March CE Primary School.
