We have competition cars coming at us from all angles this week in the workshops.
1968 Ford Lotus Cortina
The running issues on the Ford Lotus Cortina are preventing us from delivering the car so this is one of the main ones to address. John has already set valve clearances with the shims we have. We have re-checked the measurements and compared so we can work out what size shims are required.
We have used what we have but still require a couple for clearances that aren’t quite within spec so we are just awaiting delivery.

1987 Maserati BiTurbo
Huge progress is now being made on the stunning Maserati BiTurbo. We start to remove the turbo but can not access the bolts so the engine mounts and been undone and raised.
Remove manifold and turbo complete but unable to remove from the engine bay at present.

2000 Jaguar XKR Silverstone
Final preparations are now taking place on the Jaguar XKR Silverstone.
Carry out a full Pre Delivery Inspection. The washer jets have been unblocked. Torque the wheel nuts to 125nm but unable to inflate the tyres as a special tool is required.

With the pre delivery inspection complete, the car can be loaded up ready for a delivery to Norfolk.

1977 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider
Bit more preparation work required on the Alfa but it’s all very manageable. The headlamps, internally, were quite cloudy so they have been removed, the bulbs were took out and the inside of the lenses cleaned.

A section of floor below the passenger seat had rotted out. The repair had crept into the seat runner and chassis below so we have removed all sound deadening and traced the extent of the rust, cut out and started fabrication of a new section of floor and chassis spot welds. We have drilled a plug, welded, then flushed smooth.
The floord section seam has been welded in, weld through zinc rich primer was sprayed between both floor and chassis section to hinder any future rust development between the sections.

Hand fabrication of a new seat runner base. Unfortunately our steel bender wouldn’t allow clearance enough to fold the runner so Pete had to cut the uprights and fold by hand. These were then seam welded and flushed back. New bolt hole and thread welded in place and zinc primer applied to all faces prior to welding. The up and over joint was seam welded and flushed and the side tabs spot welded and flushed. The hole repair was the etch primed and inside painted black, the underside was epoxy primed, seam sealed and spray Schultz coated to match the rest of the car.
Carpets and trim that Pete removed were then hoovered and refitted.

1999 TVR Chimaera
Another appraisal to carry out. A few electrical demons to deal with but before that, we have greased up, inflated tyres and torque wheel nuts. Now it is time to start repairs.

Look into electrical faults.
Check fuses and found blown fuse for mirrors.
Test but nearside only works on 1 plane of motion.
Check windows and there is power to fuse and switches are all ok. We have removed the door speaker and access window regulator. Power regulator directly but window will not work. Repeat for offside window and window works ok.
Get wiring diagram and work out how the windows are wired.
Remove nearside switch and offside window will now operate from switch.
Found wires inside nearside door terminals come off. Join together for mirror and test. Mirrors now both work ok. Remove nearside door panel and remove bonding for nearside rear light lens.
