For Kids – Morris C8 Tank

During World War II, the British Army needed strong vehicles to help move big guns around. As it happened, they found one in the form of the Morris C8, nicknamed the “Quad”.

This massive vehicle was specially designed to pull heavy field guns and began its work all the way back in 1939 and stayed in service for a long time, even after the war had ended!

What Made the Quad Special?

The Quad had a 70-horsepower engine and four-wheel drive, which meant it could easily drive through muddy fields, rough terrain, and even up and down hills with very little problem. Inside, it had room for seven soldiers, their kit, and even storage for ammunition (the bullets for the big guns).

At the back, it had a winch that could lift really heavy stuff, up to 4,000 kilograms. Some people thought the Quad was bulletproof because of its metal shell, but actually, it wasn’t. The metal was too thin to stop bullets or flying bits of exploding shells.

A War Hero with a Long Life

Soldiers liked the Quad, even if it was bumpy and noisy, because it was warm, reliable, and always got the job done. In fact, it stayed in service all the way until 1960, and even helped in later wars like those in Korea and Malaysia.

What a cool vehicle!
