Jonn placed our 1963 Fiat 500 on the ramp to attend to the exhaust system. The old broken silencer and its mounts were removed, and the flanges were cleaned. The top bolt hole for the rear manifold was drilled out and fitted with a helicoil. The manifold and gasket were then installed and tightened. The new silencer and mounts were fitted loosely at first, followed by securing all flanges and joints, and then fully tightening the mounts.

The starter motor was checked, and both bolts were tightened. Oil level was confirmed to be satisfactory. The engine was started briefly and ran without issue. A spanner check was carried out on the exhaust.

A small bracket was fabricated and fitted to support the heat shield inside the boot lid. The nearside front wheel and drum were removed, and a broken wheel bolt was extracted using a drill and easy-out. The drum was refitted and the hub nut adjusted. The wheel was then reinstalled with new wheel bolts.

New wheel bolts were fitted to all wheels and torqued to 50Nm. Trims were refitted. A road test was carried out, during which the idle was found to be inconsistent. The carburettor base gasket was tightened, which improved the idle stability.
