John fitted a new ECT sensor to our 1994 TVR Chimaera, which is currently in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop to look into a running issue, and reconnected it before taking the car outside to run up. As the engine warmed, the idle became progressively worse. He checked the ignition timing and adjusted it to 8 degrees before top dead centre, but the idle remained rough. Bringing the car back inside, he inspected the sensors and found that the wiring to the offside was damaged and possibly broken. He removed all eight spark plugs, cleaned them, regapped them to 0.9mm, and refitted them.

To address the oxygen sensor, he made a socket to fit the small unit in the offside exhaust, removed the old sensor, fitted the new one, and secured the wiring with cable ties. On running the car again, it performed acceptably at cold temperatures but continued to run poorly as it warmed up.
