Jon investigated why the driver’s door on our 1994 Rover 220 Turbo in blue, which has been in the Bridge Classic Cars resotration workshop, would not open from the outside handle.

He stripped and removed the door panel to inspect and discovered that the operating rod from the handle to the lock was positioned on the wrong side of the actuator arm. He repositioned it correctly, tested the mechanism, and confirmed the door would now open, though he noted the clip securing the rod to the actuator was missing.

On further inspection, Jon found the outside handle itself was broken, so he removed it from the door. To repair it, he made a small plate to hold the handle together, drilled and screwed it in place, and also applied adhesive for additional strength. Once complete, he refitted the handle, adjusted the actuator arm, and tested it again, confirming everything was working properly. He then refitted the door panel and carried out a final check of all functions.

Adam polished the pillar on the same car and blended it into the original paintwork.
