Our Fletcher speedboat, that arrived with us in a very sorry state after spending the last few years under cover in a back garden, has had some special attention this week.
“We needed to remove the fuel tank to take a closer look at the engine,” explains Craig. Upon closer inspection, a thorough clean and some specialist boat advice it was decided that neither engine would be used in the restoration.
“We had two Evinrude 25HP engines, but neither were in good shape,” says Craig, “so we made the decision to up the power to a 90HP Mercury engine, which should mean it’ll go a heck of a lot faster.”
The team here were all hoping to see this beauty back out on the local waters this summer, but you can’t rush restorations! Therefore, a more intricate engine replacement will now take place to get this little speedster back on the waves.
Our Fletcher Speedboat has been treated to a detail from Colin from Viper Detailing. Our Fletcher, which hasn’t seen the water in a few years will need some light restorative works to get ship-shape.
We are contemplating adding a rear bench seat and re-trimming the interior sides of the hull.
Today we rescued our Fletcher speed boat from years of being hidden in the undergrowth of a garden in Suffolk. The boat comes with 2 engines and lots of ancillary parts and has been covered over in a fitted cover the entire time.
We will look to get the engine’s overhauled and sympathetically restore the boat so we can get it on the water hopefully later this year.
This weekend we’ll carry out a full and thorough valet which will hopefully transform the look of the boat.
First thing’s first, we’ve unclogged the plug to release the lovely bilge water.
