Our beautiful 1973 VW T2 had its primer applied post acid bath.
Unfortunately, the process of removing the rust revealed a bigger than expected project underneath so the owner took the decision to store the VW and resume its work next year.
We’re excited to re-start work on this in 2021 as we know this T2 is going to look amazing when restored to its former glory!

In with us for a full respray, this T2 has been taken back to bare metal. The Camper has been fully stripped down before the chassis and bodywork was submerged in its acid bath. The acid bath removes rusted metal, under-seal and paint, giving our paint shop technicians a blank canvas to work from.
Taking the car back to bare metal gives the best possible results for a full respray. It also allows for any welding work and repairs to be carried out.
As you can see from our photos, there is a substantial amount of rusted out metal that that acid bath has removed. Chris has washed the car over in grey primer to stop any rust attacking the metal while it’s in a bare state.
The next stages of work for the T2 will see Antony welding in fresh metal to the rusted out areas.
1973 VW T2 Campervan

Ady and Toby have been stripping down our 1973 VW T2 Campervan in preparation for bodywork and painting. Now the vehicle is completely stripped, the shell will then get acid dipped to remove rust. From there any nessasary welding and bodywork preparation can be carried out before it’s repainted.
The camper has now been fully stripped and is loaded up to be acid dipped.

We have already begun work stripping our 1973 Volkswagen T2 camper. Ady, with a little help from Toby, who will be completely all of the welding once the camper returns, are busy removing everything from the vehicle ready for the chemical dipping process to begin. The body shell will handed over to Prostrip with nothing more to remove; the running gear will all go, the doors and windows will be removed and the shell will be ready and waiting for the dipping stage.
Prostrip has developed Phos-Strip™, a chemical dip process for the removal of paint, rust and underseal from complete car shells or individual panels. Its chemical formulation strips away contaminants from all internal and external areas.

We are expecting our 1973 Volkswagen T2 to join us mid 2020 to start the restoration journey. The VW T2 is a joint wedding gift to the current owners and being a master carpenter the interior will be a treated to full bespoke rebuild. The camper will be in with us to have the body work repaired and to undergo a full re-paint inside and out.
Our first task will be to chemical treat the body shell to reveal all imperfections and to remove all dead metal so we can then repair to the highest of standards.
