Jon began repairs on our 1954 MG TF following approval to proceed. He removed the rear carburettor, stripped it completely, and cleaned the main body thoroughly in the degreasing tank before blowing it off with air. He continued with the carburettor repairs by finishing the strip-down of the rear unit, cleaning all reusable parts, wire-brushing and washing components, and blowing out the carb body. He then started the rebuild, assembling it lightly for reference as some parts had not yet arrived.
Once the rear carburettor was prepared, Jon removed the front carburettor and repeated the process, stripping it down fully, cleaning it, and preparing the reusable components. With the carburettor repair kits now on hand, he rebuilt both units using new parts. He fitted a new throttle spindle and butterfly, along with a return spring to ensure the throttle remained closed. Measurements of the throttle actuator arm were set, marked, drilled, and a pin was knocked in to secure it in the correct position. He completed the work by fitting new seals and a jet tube, along with new washers, ensuring both carburettors were correctly rebuilt and ready for refitting.
