Molly and I headed to Kensington Olympia this weekend for The London Classic Car Show for a fun-filled day of classic cars from up and
On 1st December 2023, we set off on a festive adventure across the Suffolk countryside – our first-ever Mince Pie Drive. The day dawned bright but extremely cold and icy. We decided to still venture out, albeit with a smaller convoy than first planned. The Bridge Classic Cars team wrapped up warm and headed out (special mention goes to our friends Garry Catchpole and Derek Rush for joining us).
The idea behind our Mince Pie Drive was to take classic cars to several local residential care homes to bring nostalgia and festive cheer to the residents and staff. There were mince pies, kindly provided by The Bakehouse Bakery Woodbridge, and carol singing from Molly and me (sorry about that folks!)
We went first to Highlands in Woodbridge before making our way to Bucklesham Grange Care Home, where we were greeted by the lovely Amanda-Jane Frank, who introduced us to the residents. Several came out to have a look at our cars, with Derek’s BMW proving to be a favourite here. Luke Deal from BBC Suffolk came along to chat with us and see what we were up to. You can listen to that interview here.
Next, we headed to Glebe House in Hollesley. The residents were just having their lunch, and talk about a meal with a view! The mince pies were a very welcome dessert! Lastly, whilst chasing the last hour of daylight, we popped to our neighbours at Lehmann House in Wickham Market.
We are so humbled by all the lovely residents and incredible care workers we met on our Mince Pie Drive. It was so wholesome to be able to remind them of yesteryear by bringing along a spectrum of cars. There really was something for everyone.
We can’t wait to do more events like this in future.
What a way to end a year of fantastic events at Bridge Classic Cars! Despite the cold and wet weather, festive spirits were not dampened. The turn out was great with lots of you coming along for food and drink. Our Molly kept us entertained with vintage tunes and Christmas classics with The Three Chordettes singing throughout the day.
Some brave souls ventured out with their classics which was great to see and it was lovely to speak to so many of you as you warmed yourself with coffee and mulled wine.
This event just about wraps up our events for the year, we have got lots planned for 2024 and we can’t wait to see you there.
And it was one of the first outings for our newly branded Bridge Classic Cars Defender. A perfect advertising board parked up outside our gates.
This weekend Gordon was delighted to attend the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run once more, the spectacle never failing to make an impression on him.
This annual event, steeped in history, has been running almost consistently since its conception in 1896. First billed as ‘The Emancipation Run’ it was created by Harry Lawson, of The Motor Car Club, in the wake of some law changes that made a car run possible. With sabbaticals caused by war and fuel rationing few and far between, the event has remained a familiar fixture in the calendar for well over 100 years. The run itself has seen various reinventions over the years with the route changing as well as the mileage increasing. Regulations such as the implementation of speed limits have also had their influence.
Gordon started his weekend with a lovely meal in the Dilsk Restaurant followed by a stay in Drakes Hotel in Brighton. After a well deserved lay in, the day dawned bright and sunny. They headed over the road to see a spectrum of beautiful pre-1905 cars and bikes. The variety was tremendous including those powered by petrol, steam and electric!
Vehicles of all shapes and sizes made their way across the Brighton finish line after a far journey from London and by 4.30pm it was time for the whistle to be blown and to go in search of a nice glass of something.
Take a look at the gallery to see some of Gordon’s discoveries.
Bridge Classic Cars return as headline sponsors for another year. Theย Festival of Classic & Sports Carsย features vehicles from a wide range of eras. More than 1000 vehicles attended the 2023 festival in spite of torrential rain! You can be sure you will be able to find something for everyone.
The show takes place against the backdrop of Helmingham Hall and its surrounding moat making for a stunning location for some truly beautiful cars.
In addition to the eye-catching vehicles on display, there are plenty of activities for all the family including childrenโs activities, fairground stalls, over 40 craft and trade stalls, main ring entertainment, birds of prey and much more!
A variety of food and drink will be available and there will be multiple forms of entertainment to keep you amused.
There is also the opportunity to transport yourself back to the era your car was made by dressing in the fashion of the time. Competitions for best dressed will be going on throughout the festival so you can be rewarded for making the effort.
All of the spaces reserved for the Bridge Classic Cars Members’ Club have now been allocated. We look forward to seeing you for an amazing day.

Twinwood is always the highlight of my calendar year and 2023 did not disappoint. The execution of such a warm and welcoming festival was done in an organised manner with the friendliest of marshals (Ernie, Iโm looking at you).
The weekend was filled with lots of music spanning many eras and genres, music hall classics merged into musical theatre for a cockney sing-a-long, rock and roll, jazz, acoustic original bands and even an Abba tribute to headline on Saturday evening. There are many different venues available within the festival, some more intimate, some on a massive scale. Even though the weather was wet and typically British this did not deter those from the outside stages. The partying continued in the rain!
With good music comes dancing and the dance floors were fit to burst. There were many dancing with partners but many strolls offered the opportunity for those dancing on their own, there were also many dance lessons available to beginners and more accomplished dancers alike. I had lessons in Charleston, jive, waltz and the shag. After a few squashed toes, we got the hang of it.
There were lots of great options for food and drink including an onsite pub, the Nags Head. The Split Screen Ice Cream Co. was selling luxury scoops from their classic VW camper and I sampled the Vegan Salted Caramel which was to die for, I also sampled every cocktail from The Tiki barโฆ just for quality checking of course.
The sense of community at Twinwood really begins on the campsite. Many of the pitches are modern however there are also some classic gems amongst them. There were some great examples of World War 2 tents dotted around showing the quality of manufacture by standing the test of time, there were also several classic air streams including one that was decorated to resemble a beach! One gentleman even towed his rather large vintage caravan with his lovely red Pontiac.
I was lucky enough to speak to him about his Pontiac, it is just one of the many classics he owns alongside his Buick to name one. He has lovingly restored this vehicle himself by sourcing things such as the badges individually and carrying out the mechanical work. He outsourced the paint job and altogether it is a smashing example of a well-loved classic. The Pontiac was lined up alongside a handful of other cars, including my favourite, a Vauxhall Cresta (Iโd like one in two-tone pink if anyone is looking for Christmas presents for me.) A Ford Consul, a 1951 Riley, Chevrolet Truck and an Austin Healey were a few of the others on display. I also enjoyed having a look around some US Military Vehicles.
Lots of the attendees dressed up to the nines, many dapper gentlemen in suits of a bygone era and ladies wearing everything from heritage tweed to flapper sequins to fluffy petticoats. I made many purchases including a much lusted-after pair of saddle shoes, a few dresses and a brooch that looks like me! There were vintage items for all and if you fancied something brand new and inspired by vintage fashions, vendors like Rock N Romance have you covered.
All in all a great weekend was had by all and I can highly recommend it to anyone who likes great music and lovely people.
Le Keux (pronounced le cue) is a countrywide franchise, with our closest based in Southend in Essex. This is a vintage salon run by the wonderful Anna! She creates looks for weddings, events, photoshoots or just to make you feel fabulous. Her ability to wind hair into intricate updos or brush out into Hollywood waves will leave you the envy of all your friends.
Anna has made it her mission to travel up and down the country to introduce people to the world of vintage hairstyling and has even created a how-to guide that can be purchased in the form of an e-book. Alongside hair styling, Le Keux also have a carefully curated range of cosmetics designed to be long-lasting.
Le Keux Essex will be appearing at our Bridge Classic Car Show on Sunday, where you will be able to purchase products and even get your hair done.
I have recently been working on a project with Anna at Le Keux in collaboration with other brands such as Rock n Romance and Lady Luckโs Boutique by taking part in a pin-up style shoot at Grumpyโs Diner in Southend. I had a great day posing in a mid-century setting with an iconic-looking milkshake in hand!
This weekend, we opened up the doors of The Atelier to another car club. The Suffolk & Essex Jaguar Enthusiasts Club arrived in full force at 10 am, showcasing a range of vehicles. There were cars spanning the eras with some classics in excellent condition as well as some modern examples. It was great for members to catch up and share anecdotes of their experiences.
Coffee and cakes were enjoyed by all, followed by an exciting tour of the Bridge Classic Cars workshop by Nick. Our guests were able to learn about our current and upcoming competition cars as well as take an in-depth look at our workshop, paint department and fabrication bay.
The morning came to a close and guests headed off with some reconvening at local restaurants en route home.
Each year Twinwood Festival hold a pageant where men and women are invited to apply to become Mr or Miss Vintage and I am so delighted to be in the running for Miss Vintage 2023!
We are currently in the voting stage with the final to be held over the festival weekend.
Itโs a great opportunity for me to showcase my love of historic dress as well as spread awareness of sustainable fashion.
All you have to do to vote for me is go to the Facebook Post and like my photo.
We arrived at 9.30 am at the Ricknghall Car Show to be greeted by the lovely Geoff Short, on behalf of the Jaguar Car Club, who had organised the day. The day was sunny and breezy with about 200 cars in attendance of varying makes, marks, models and eras, everything from our 2009 Porsche Caymen to a classic Mini and even vintage tractors.
Molly and I had a wander about the show and were lucky enough to be able to meet some of the owners of the exhibiting vehicles. A gentleman called Mike talked us through his leaf-green Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite which he has restored from scratch over the last 20 years, another couple talked us through their Austin Seven which ran very well and had a lovely vintage suitcase strapped to the back. Molly fell in love with a beautifully cared-for Fiat, her owner Heidi keeps her pride and joy well polished!
As well as the cars on display there was also a craft fair filled with lots of homemade items including fudge!
We welcomed Freddie to the team this weekend, he fitted in like part of the furniture and was able to talk to members of the public about our Porsche and also the 1980 Saab Turbo that we took over with us.
All in all a lovely day was had by all and marked the start of the car show season for us.
Nigel Woodhouse of Simply Swing came in to see Lily today to chat about upcoming events. He arrived in style in his ’49 Chrysler, chrome polished to perfection.
Lily and Nigel have begun planning events for over the summer where vintage music and swing dancing can be incorporated. Having something for everyone at our big events will make them even more enjoyable and really add to the vintage vibe.
On Sunday 9th April and Monday 10th April I dressed up in my 1940s finery and visited the Memories of the 1940s event at the Crich Tramway Museum in Derbyshire. Stepping back to 1940s Britain on the Homefront, with live entertainment from the 1940s.
I arrived around lunch time to be greeted by lots of friendly faces and warm welcomes, I set up my picnic and enjoyed music from Johnny Victory. Everyone was singing along to nostalgic songs from a bygone era, interjecting with call backs and familiar choruses.
There were some fantastic cars and military vehicles on display as well as a Spitfire! The collection of Trams really stole the show however with many different kinds ferrying guests up and down the lines all day. There were open top and double decker varieties from up and down the country, from London, Blackpool, Sheffield and more from a variety of time periods. Inside one of the tram sheds you could learn all about the history and origins of the trams and how the technology and engineering paved the way for many other transporting advancements.
There were lots of re-enactors mingling including service men and women, spivs and even Winston Churchill! Many of the guests were dressed in their 1940s finery, both civilian and military garbs, there was also the option of purchasing vintage clothing on many of the stalls.
The interactive displays were both educational and entertaining with displays of pharmaceutical stores, WI, a printing press and an operation sweet shop! My personal favourite was of course the pub, with a wide range of drinks. There were people playing cards, impromptu singing and many frivolities.
For more information head to the Crich Tramway Museum Website
Though the weather today may be bleak and in some places snowy, the early flowers popping up in hedgerows and on grassy banks promise that spring is just around the corner. Pops of colour and low yellowy sun symbolise the beginning of another year filled with adventure.
For many of you, the winter months signal a time when the precious motors are tucked up warm in a garage or storage facility however, those with a year-round driver have been able to enjoy journeys out on crisp, frosty(but not icy) mornings. Some even ventured out to welcome in the New Year with Bridge Classic Cars back at the beginning of January and enjoyed a bright day driving followed by a cosy lunch in a local pub.
Now, as the nights draw out, the car community awakes en masse from its slumber. Tarpaulins and carcoons are pulled back, chrome is polished to perfection and paintwork buffed lovingly to its pre-hibernation glory. The event season begins.
For Bridge Classic Cars this year, the calendar is buoyant with events to suit every car lover, we want to welcome you to monthly live draws with music and fun as well as more car meets and coffee mornings for a more intimate vibe. We have special guests sharing their stories and lives with us, on stage at The Atelier. First, we welcome Ed Stafford, shortly followed by Martin Donnelly plus many more special guests. Soon to be revealed! We have days out in the local area allowing us to celebrate Suffolk and classic cars all in one go. Rallies, charity events and car shows scattered through spring and summer meaning there is fun, entertainment and a warm welcome for all the family.
Molly and I headed to Kensington Olympia this weekend for The London Classic Car Show for a fun-filled day of classic cars from up and down the country.
On arrival, we were greeted by the organisers who encouraged us to walk around and view all the exhibitions brought together by this event. One of the main attractions was an iconic display of Minis designed for members of the Beatles. A highly decorated one belonged to George Harrison and one had even been converted for Ringo Starr to be able to put his drums in the back!
The Aston Martin Club, Ferrari Owners Club and The Triumph TR Register Car Club amongst many others were there representing their clubs. And there was a great display of many cars, some over 100 years old.
Earlier in the weekend there had been an auction take place, hosted by Historics Auctioneers. A great many lots were available with some truly remarkable cars on offer.
Molly was lucky enough to be invited onto the Fighting Torque stage at 3 pm to talk about her thoughts on Barn Finds alongside Tobias Ballard, Nick Wells, and Vicki Butler-Henderson. She spoke to the audience about our 1905 Riley 9HP and our love for uncovering hidden treasures in unexpected places.
After finishing on stage, Molly and I bumped into Tobias as he headed back to his own stand, The Model A Revival Company. A few years ago he recreated his very own version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang using car components from vehicles dating before the 1930s, Tobias gave us a quick run-through about where all of the parts were sourced from. There was even an incredible snake horn down one side! It is a very special vehicle and provokes feelings of nostalgia.
It was great to see so many special cars in one place, surrounded by the people that are the most passionate. We are looking forward to next year.
