On Saturday 20th September, the 5th Woodbridge Sea Scouts all came together for a huge fundraising event and we were there to support the troups.

A big congratulations goes to the 70 young members of the 5WSS who laced up their boots to โ€œWalk the Deben.โ€

For the very first time, children and young people aged 4 to 18 joined forces to take part in the day. Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers united to tackle the challenge.

Together, they covered an impressive 53 miles along the river, with routes ranging from 2 miles to an epic 13.5 miles.

After the walk, everyone gathered back at Whisstocks Historic Riverside for a well-deserved barbecue as well as the first-ever Group Scout Awards and a full team get-together. Long-service awards were presented to the brilliant volunteer leaders and trustees, while each section named its own โ€œStar of 5WSSโ€ and โ€œSpirit of 5WSS.โ€

The fundraising idea was sparked by young leader Oscar Hayter and it has already raised an amazing ยฃ4,500. More support is still welcome and you can contribute here: www.justgiving.com/campaign/walkthedeben2025.

Every donation helps towards renovating and modernising the Scout hut, repairing and upgrading boats and water sports equipment and ensuring every young person can enjoy the incredible programme, no matter their circumstances.
