1971 Austin Sprite MK4 – you have read correctly, this is the very rare Austin Sprite, with the chassis number AAN10 and not the more available Austin Healey Sprite, with the chassis number HAN 10.
The Healey connection was discontinued in 1971, so the final 1022 Sprites built were simply Austin Sprites. This was a cost-cutting move of Donald Stokes, enabling British Leyland to stop paying royalties to the Donald Healey Motor Company. There was no direct successor, as British Leyland’s extensive range already contained the MG Midget, which was identical to the Sprite except for badging, and the similarly dimension and priced Triumph Spitfire.
Previous owner Nigel bought this lovely little car in 1993 to restore for himself and family but like many a budding restorer his life and long hours working away stopped it ever progressing.
This little gem of a Sprite is requiring a full restoration but is surprisingly solid and has a great interior. It has been garage it’s entire life with Nigel.
It is a complete car with everything there but the engine has not been started for many years and may need a rebuild.
The original HLY registration number that has a value in itself is also included in the sale of the car.
