Subject to a full concours restoration here at Bridge Classic Cars for one of our customers. Unfortunately, due to a change of circumstances he has decided not to take delivery.
Finished in its original colour combination of gloss black with black leather…a gorgeous colour choice and one not often found.
The remit from our customer was that he wanted to use the car for travelling to his other home in Europe and wanted every upgrade known to make this a reliable motorcar capable of travelling in cold and hot climates alike.
We purchased the car from someone whom had imported it from America. It was originally a left hand drive model but is now converted to right hand drive.
All the works carried out on this car can be seen in the projects section of the Bridge Classic Cars website. There you’ll find lots of photographs along with the full story of events.
The car has been stripped to a bare shell; new panels and new steel were let in prior to paint preparation and final paint.
Converted to right hand drive using all new parts.
The engine was stripped and rebuilt by Scholar Engineering, the renowned race engine builders. (full specification available). A video of the engine being tested and run up at the Scholar workshops can be found on our YouTube channel. As a part of the upgrades we used an original D Type head known to be more robust from its racing heritage.
The triple carbs were totally rebuilt and polished before marrying them to the engine for bench testing.
The car has been fitted with a Clayton Classics Air Conditioning system. We incorporated the radio part of the centre console into the system by fitting extra vents. This modification was carried out to improve the direction of the air, as some systems only feed it into the footwell. Cold legs, hot face.
As the customer didnโt want to fit a radio he opted for a hidden blue tooth amplifier, allowing music to be played through the hidden speakers via Bluetooth or head phone jack socket from his phone and of course allowing a hands free phone system.
A radio could still be fitted if required but the system installed is absolutely fantastic.
To upgrade the heating system further a larger capacity aluminium radiator and heater matrix was fitted.
All dials have been totally refurbished and new or reconditioned switches are in place.
The interior is totally re-trimmed in black leather and a new ceiling cloth has been fitted.
72 spoke stainless wires with Pirelli Cinturato 185 VR 15 tyres and a full stainless steel exhaust system have also been fitted.
All chrome has either been re-chromed or renewed.
Lighting upgraded to Halogen with new rear lights.
With all its upgraded parts some would say it is better than when it was new.
The V5 is in our name and the car is now ready for a new home.
An appreciating classic that not only gives hours of wonderful touring but will certainly increase in value.
With series 1 convertibles now fetching ยฃ200,000 upwards this is a fantastic opportunity to own the 2+2 version as a concours car.
