After recent repairs to its wheel arches and getting high build primer applied, our 1999 Vauxhall Omega went through its final preparations before receiving its top coat of paint.
During the prep work, all joints were sealed and the car was appropriately covered to ensure the paintwork looked as good as new.
As you can see from the photos below, the rust issues the car was suffering from are now resolved and our Omega is another step closer to driving out of the workshop and back to its owner.
Following repairs to both rear wheel arches and sills, our 1999 Vauxhall Omega was given a coat of high-build primer.
This will help provide the best possible surface for the top coat of paint to be applied.
With the arch and sills now repaired, and the car almost ready for painting, it continues to make good progress through the restoration process.
After discovering that our 1999 Vauxhall Omega had some issues with rust, the workshop team got to work on resolving them.
With rust beginning to be a thing of the past for this car, work continues to get it back out on the road.
Our 1999 Vauxhall Omega has spent a bit of time in our workshop recently. During this time, the workshop team have discovered some rust issues that will need to be addressed.
Our classic car technicians will now put together a plan of how to best resolve the issues so we can get the car back out on the road.
After completing some investigative work and stripping the nearside rocker cover on our 1999 Vauxhall Omega, classic car technician Jon cleaned and reassembled everything ready to be refitted to the car. This included putting the intake runners back together and reinstalling them along with the plenum chamber and pipework.
He also emptied the spark plug holes of the oil that had leaked into them and then refitted the spark plugs.
To finish, Jon checked all fluid levels and topped up any if it was needed.
Lots of work has been done on our Vauxhall Omega over the last few days.
Classic car technician Jon has been replacing the front crankshaft seal as well as replacing the front rocker cover gasket.
This classic car from 1999 continues to progress through its restoration work and we are looking forward to seeing it back on the road as soon as possible.
Dave is now looking into possible reasons for why the engine on our Vauxhall Omega is leaking. He is currently in the process of replacing the Dowty washers and seals on the oil cooler. There also appears to be a leak coming from the front pulley so this will also need investigating.
The cambelt and water pump on any car are an important and vital component to the engine’s health and well being. The workshop team at Bridge Classic Cars know this so they have replaced those pieces on the 1999 Vauxhall Omega.
Our workshop manager John has many years’ experience working on Vauxhalls so the job fell to him. John removed the timing cover from the engine to expose the belts and water pump which were safely removed and kept for reference against the new replacements. After checking, the new parts were installed back into the 2.5 litre V6 of the Omega and the car run up to temperature to check after all fluids had been topped off and rechecked.
The workshop team at Bridge Classic Cars have got to work on stripping the dashboard and some of the centre console of the 1999 Vauxhall Omega in order to get access to the old Heater Matrix.
Because of its location, many parts of the dashboard had to be carefully removed and stored to get access. This included disconnecting multiple wiring connections just to remove the steering wheel alone. Because this is on the newer scale of cars we work on, the team made sure to take note of every single connection with photos taken throughout the process.
Also, taking their time to make sure any pressure clips were carefully unclipped out of their sockets to avoid any damage to parts.
Whilst everything was out, the team took the opportunity of the good weather (and the wet hoover) to try out some of the sound deadening and carpet set.
With this all complete, the next step for the team is to install the new heater matrix into the classic Omega.
This 1999 Vauxhall Omega 2.5 V6 has arrived in the Bridge Classic Cars restoration workshop at our Suffolk HQ for our restoration teams to do an important job on the rare Vauxhall.
The team in the workshop have been asked to replace the heater matrix for the owner. Along with that, the team will also carry out an inspection of the car and report back any findings.
