It feels like forever since we last visited our Jaguar XK120 body but today’s the day. The car has been rolled out of storage and all components have been removed and sorted, ready for them all to head off for media blasting.
Our 1954 Jaguar XK120 has made some great progress as of late.
As you can see from the pictures below, things are starting to come together.
The engine and gearbox have been put back onto the chassis of our 1954 Jaguar XK120.
After being lifted into position, Jonn secured the mounts and everything in place. The wheels were then put back on so the stands could be removed.
The chassis rebuild of our 1954 Jaguar XK120 has begun.
The front suspension and front stub axle have been fitted and, once the axle arrives back at the workshop, the rebuild can continue.
Our 1954 Jaguar XK120 has been in paint with Chris.
While in the paintshop, Chris applied dtm gloss to various components.
The clutch arm and fixings were replaced on our 1954 Jaguar XK120, as they had been welded at some point in the past. Then the flywheel was refitted with new bolts along with a new 3-part clutch kit. Then the engine and gearbox were mated up and connected with new fixings.
Soon to be arriving at the Bridge Classic Cars workshop is this Jaguar XK120.
It is coming from overseas but we are very much looking forward to its arrival so work can begin on bringing this beautiful classic car back to life.
Rebuilding the engine of our 1954 Jaguar XK120 has begun which is an exciting part of the restoration.
After dismantling the engine, it was noted that the head has severe corrosion close to and within the sealing part of the head. This means that it is not serviceable but, fortunately, we have a good replacement that could be used.
There also appear to be some vital parts missing, which will need to be replaced such as the rev counter generator and blanking plate on the opposite side, the oil pipe from heads to block, the distributor, the oil distribution block and the oil filter housing, the dipstick, the pulley that bolts onto the crank damper, and the dynamo bracket/dynamo.
The heads have been prepared and are ready to be rebuilt and the block has been rebored to +40 along with 1 new liner as the piston was seized.
After the engine and gearbox of our 1954 Jaguar XK120 were removed from the car, they were separated and strapped securely to a pallet ready to be shipped to Rushton Engineering, who will be rebuilding them.
Once they are back with us, in a little while, the classic XK120 will be able to continue making progress through its restoration journey in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop.
After the chassis of our 1954 Jaguar XK120 was repaired by our fabrication team, it moved over into the Bridge Classic Cars paintshop.
While there, classic car technician Mauro painted the chassis black.
As you can tell from the photos below, the chassis looks much improved and marks a step forward in the restoration of our classic Jaguar XK120.
Classic car technician Chris has been completing some welding repairs on our 1954 Jaguar XK120. After stripping the car, bracing it, and then removing the body, Chris has got to work on making the required repairs to the metalwork.
There’s still a long way to go before our classic XK120 looks its best but, with each repair completed, it gets a step closer to its former glory.
Various components of our 1954 Jaguar XK120 have been in the Bridge Classic Cars paint shop with classic car technician Mauro.
He has been priming the parts before painting them black ready to eventually be re-fitted to our classic Jaguar. The wheels were also in the paint booth to be primed too.
Our Jaguar XK120 will look incredible when it is fully restored and we are very excited to see its progress continue.

After being a paused project for a while, it is great to see our XK120 make good progress towards, eventually, leaving the Bridge Classic Cars workshop and getting back out on the road to be enjoyed as it should.

After being a paused restoration project for its previous owner, it has spent some time at our secure storage facility waiting for a spot in the Bridge Classic Cars workshop. Now that the time has come for its restoration to continue with our team of skilled technicians, work can finally begin on bringing our XK120 back to life.
John has been stripping the car ready for restoration work to begin and we are very excited to see this project progress and to get this classic car back on the road.
As part of the checks on the reported fuel gauge issue with the 1951 Jaguar XK120 Roadster, Jon has checked some wiring on the classic Jaguar.
Jon has been in the boot of the Roadster to check the wiring for the fuel tank sender which also controls the fuel gauge. He checked the overall condition of the connections as well as performing a continuity test on the circuit.
All came back completely clear and showing a good ground.
The Bridge Classic Cars team have been working on the Jaguar XK120 with this round of work comprising of a gearbox oil change and looking into a fuel issue.
To begin with, the team began to look for a reported fuel leak at the rear of the car. Jon inspected all pipework to and from the tank, with no evidence of a leak anywhere to be found with all fittings tight and secure. Next, he looked into the issue of the fuel gauge not reading correctly, however for the team here the gauge worked correctly on test.
Moving on with the work we had been asked to carry out was a gearbox service on the classic Jaguar. For this, the team had to remove the gearbox drain and allow the entire casing to empty completely (the team also inspected the oil for any debris) before moving into the cabin of the XK120. Carefully they moved the carpets back and cover them. Then they could remove the inspection plate which allows the team to fill the gearbox from the top of the transmission. After that, the plate was put back on and secured, and carpets fitted back into place and hoovered throughout by the team.
Arriving this afternoon at the Bridge Classic Cars Suffolk HQ was this breath-taking 1951 Jaguar XK120 for our workshop to look into.
The car has been worked on by various specialists since the current owner purchased the car several years ago but since its last visits with them has developed a few little niggles that the team here at Bridge Classic Cars will be having a look into.
There are also a few areas the workshop technicians will be looking into such as inaccurate gauges and a sticking front brake. Along with that, the team will look into the set-up of the carburettors which feed the straight-six engine (including a small issue with the choke) and servicing of the gearbox.

Bridge Classic Cars have recently acquired this beautiful 1954 Jaguar XK120 for sale as a project to be restored.
This XK120 was in the process of being restored by its previous owner who could not complete the project, unfortunately. This XK120 project comes with a full V5 as well as a spare chassis and boxes of spare parts to complete the project.
The previous owner managed to get hold of a correct 3.4-litre straight-six engine for the project, but the car itself is not numbers matching. The car if bought, however, could be restored by our workshops if required.

This car was acquired by ourselves due to the owner, unfortunately, passing away and therefore the project has been left incomplete. Tom and Brian went to pick up the car, the spare chassis and the numerous spare parts which had been sourced for the car by its previous owner.
